The LAWN at Hub & Spoke

Client:
Project Description:
Hub & Spoke, Fishers Parks and Recreation Department
Location:
Fishers, Ind.
In early 2024, FRMWRK was engaged to deliver a vibrant, multi-use public space at the Hub + Spoke building, creating a new community hub along the Nickel Plate Trail. Collaborating closely with Hub + Spoke ownership and Fishers Parks and Recreation, we crafted a flexible, four-season space designed to provide a safe, welcoming environment with activities and events for people of all ages and abilities.
The Lawn at Hub & Spoke offers flexible lawns for both passive recreation and programming. Lounge seating and relaxation areas invite visitors to unwind, while spaces for outdoor games encourage active engagement. Direct access to the Nickel Plate Trail further integrates the space into the community fabric.
Focal points like a communal firepit and an urban swing serve as gathering spots, adding to the dynamic atmosphere. Overhead lighting enhances evening use and safety, making it an inviting destination. The site is furnished with flexible seating and movable elements to cater to various uses, from small family picnics to larger private events.
The Lawn also serves as a trailhead for the southern leg of the Nickel Plate Trail, offering amenities like bicycle parking, trail signage, a bike repair station, and accessible routes connecting the Hub & Spoke building to the trail. This multi-use, multi-generational space reflects the innovative and industrial spirit of the Hub + Spoke development, seamlessly connecting it to the public realm and enhancing the community experience.
